How to take a screenshot on Android

A screenshot saves a picture of whatever is on your screen — like a suspicious text or email — so you can send it to ScamProtector and get a clear answer.

Android phones from different makers (Samsung, Google, Motorola and others) mostly work the same way. Start with the steps below.

  1. Open what you want to capture

Go to the text message, email, or web page you're worried about, so it is showing on your screen.

  2. Press two buttons at the same time

Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button together for about one second, then let go.

  3. Watch for the flash

The screen flashes or shrinks for a moment, and a small preview of your screenshot appears. If a Save button appears, tap it.

  4. Find your screenshot

Open the Photos app (or Gallery) and open the Screenshots album. Your picture is saved there.

  5. Send it to ScamProtector

Open the screenshot, tap the Share button, and send the picture by text message to ScamProtector.

Samsung Galaxy phone? The same Power + Volume Down works. Some Galaxy phones also let you swipe the edge of your hand across the screen to take a screenshot (called Palm swipe to capture).
Buttons hard to press? On most Android phones you can say “Hey Google, take a screenshot”, or turn on the Accessibility Menu (Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Menu) to take a screenshot from an on-screen button.
